Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies such as local storage and session tokens. This policy explains what we use, why, and how you can control them.
2. Cookies we use
2.1 Strictly necessary
These cookies are required for the platform to function. They cannot be disabled without breaking core features.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| sb-* | Supabase | Authentication session tokens (JWT + refresh token) |
| __stripe_mid | Stripe | Fraud prevention and payment security |
| __stripe_sid | Stripe | Fraud prevention and payment security |
2.2 Functional
These cookies remember your preferences to improve your experience.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| sm_ref | SurveyMate | Stores referral code attribution across sessions |
| sm_trial_intent | SurveyMate | Remembers trial signup intent across email verification |
2.3 Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (via Google’s gtag.js) to understand how the site is used and where to improve it, in aggregate. These cookies are controlled by the analytics category in our cookie banner (on unless you opt out) and run under Google Consent Mode v2 — if you opt out, analytics operate in a cookieless, non-identifying mode.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors to measure aggregate usage (expires after 2 years) |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Persists analytics session state (expires after 2 years) |
2.4 Marketing
We advertise SurveyMate through Google Ads. To measure whether our own ads lead to sign-ups (conversion measurement), we use Google’s advertising cookies. These are controlled by the marketing category and are off by default — they load only if you opt in via our cookie banner.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Google Ads | Attributes a sign-up to an ad click for conversion measurement (expires after ~90 days) |
We use these Google services only to measure our own site and advertising performance. We do not use the Meta/Facebook Pixel, and we do not sell your personal data.
3. How to control cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in to SurveyMate.
4. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add or change technologies. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes will be notified in line with our Privacy Policy.
