This is a revision document rather than a lesson. It gathers the load-bearing material from all six modules into one place: the mechanisms and how to tell them apart, the building science that constrains them, what each instrument measures and how it lies, the inspection sequence, and the reporting discipline. Read it before the assessment, and again before your first few jobs.

Key terms
- Discriminator
- An observation or measurement whose outcome separates one candidate mechanism from another.
- Moisture balance
- Moisture entering or generated versus moisture removed. Damp is a deficit in that balance.
- Chain of evidence
- Observation → measurement → context → interpretation → probable cause.
- Scope of competence
- What you are qualified and equipped to assess. Beyond it, refer.
